The 2021 swimming carnival for Years 7 and 8 was held on the 17th of February at the Terry Hills Swim School. There was a total of 16 races and many people joined in or helped cheer for their team. The 50-meter races were intense but still entertaining and the 25-meter races were very nerving.
Mrs Davey did an incredible job organising and hosting the swimming carnival. The timekeepers also did a great job by timing and writing down the times of the swimmers.
Freestyle and backstroke were popular this year whilst butterfly didn’t have many contestants. As for breaststroke it held a reasonable number of students in the races. All the students that cheered them on during the races continued to motivate the swimmers.
The relay for Year 7 was tight. The winning team for the Year 7 relay was Fairness followed by Friendship and in third place was Respect. For the Year 8 relay Fairness took the lead, then Respect in second, followed by Friendship. These relay races really determined the winning team for this year’s swimming carnival. One thing I’m sure about is that our Year 7’s and 8’s have some pure talent for swimming!
So, for the 2021 GISS swimming carnival for Years 7 and 8 the winning team was… Fairness. Congratulations to all the swimmers and I have to say this year’s swimming carnival is one to remember! Jamila McGregor (Year 7)
