I thought that the athletics carnival was a really nice day to get out into the sunny outdoors and enjoy doing something active. In the Athletics carnival each year did 100m race, 200m race, 800m race and a few other activities like long jump, shot put and discus. If you were one of the fastest runners, you got into the house relays. I think that overall, the athletics carnival was a huge success, and it was really fun to take part in. I cannot wait till next year when we get to do it all again. - Hunter Year 9a
Friday, 4th June 2021 was finally here, the long-anticipated day many students had been looking forward to. Students from Years 3 to 10 had the fantastic opportunity to take part in one of the greatest sporting events of the year, our annual GISS Athletics Carnival held at Sydney Academy of Sport Narrabeen. On this wonderful sunny day, the students competed in six disciplines: the 100m and 200m sprint, 800m distance running, discus, shot put, and long jump. Everybody had a fantastic time. They competed against each other and tried their hardest, achieving amazing results while showing fairness, camaraderie and sportsmanship.
The House Relays and the Students vs Teachers Relay were especially hard-fought events on the day. Mr Day, Ms Mannherz, Mr Kelly and Ms Davey did their best to take home the victory for the teachers, but they were unlucky this time around and a well-won success went to the students.
Thank you, students. It was a pleasure watching you having so much fun and the atmosphere was electric throughout the day, with students cheering on their House teams as well as each other, all with great enthusiasm.
The nominations for the IPSHA Athletics Carnival (Years 3-6 only), which will be held on Monday, 16th August 2021 at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Field
will be published in our next newsletter. Parents of students who have qualified will be notified by Thursday, 17th June 2021. - Anika Davey
The Athletics carnival was a fun activity for a the end of term. It allowed us to run, jump, throw, and push our way through to let us win the day for our house. It was overall a fun experience, with fun activities and it gave us plenty of time between races to push ourselves again. Definitely something I’d want to take part in next year, even if I’m not the best athlete. - Axel 9a
