From the 21 to 24 March, the IB students spent their IB retreat in Huskissons Beach, on the south coast of NSW.

After catching up on some sleep on the bus to their destination, the students went shopping to buy provisions for dinner.

The weather was beautiful and upon arrival, they set themselves up in their cabins and spent some relaxing time on the beach, playing soccer or building sandcastles.

One student's grandparents who are volunteers for WIRES live nearby and they brought some of the animals they were looking after.  They spoke about  many interesting things including how to raise a joey.

Back at the cabins, dinner was prepared for the Italian Street Food Night, and everyone shared the delicious pizza bread, pasta and salads.

monday

The students wandered to the unique, local cinema and watched the movie 'Unchartered' while enjoying some popcorn. The weather was again glorious and the afternoon was spent playing mini golf and lawn bowling.

From 5 pm onwards the students started preparing their 'beach' inspired menu for the master chef class. They presented their plates to the Jury (teachers) who judged the delicious meals taking into consideration sustainability, health, theme, creativity and taste. There were many delicious summer-inspired creations from mango salad to curry, to prawns and slow-cooked pork.

tuesday

Every morning from Tuesday to Thursday between 7.30 am and 8.30 am they had morning activities, such as stand up paddling, kajaking, tennis and table tennis which they did in different groups.

wednesday

After the usual moring acitivites the students went on an incident hike challenge. They had to complete various tasks at different stations as a group and could collect points for these. The tasks ranged from demonstrating card tricks, skilled throwing, to the writing and presenting  of limericks.

Later that day, the students split up into groups in which they wrote screenplays for a Tarantino-inspired GISS movie. The movie had to be five minutes long and was shot with mobiles and edited with laptops. Many interesting and very creative short movies were produced. These were then screened at the opening that night and the fun evening concluded with a farewell BBQ utilising all the leftovers and shopping from the past few days in the sense of sustainability.

There was an IB student in huskies on beach
And a little bold man who didn't want to teach
He went down to the shore
It began to pour
And then he was eaten by a  leach

There was a student at huskies on beach
He wanted to swim, but there was a crab on the beach
He tried to run
Cause it ruined his fun
Then he began to screech

There once was an IB student on the beach
And a little puppy went and screeched
He tried to fly
Bu instead he cried
Because the old lady from the cabin was a leach

There was once an IB student named Zeu
Who is the best rapper, it's true!
He was wearing sick drip
But got caught in a rip
And fell out of his damn canoe

There once was an IB student named Raph
Who desperately needed a bath
His friends started to yell
Because he really snelled
But all you could do was laugh

thursday

Although it was drizzling, it was a fantastic trip and they saw many dolphins that came very close to the boat. The students all took great photos and videos of these friendly and fun creatures.

Back on land, and after a short lunch, everyone climbed on the bus for the trip home. There was a lot of snoozing after the past four exhausting days.

It really was a great trip for everyone with a lot of positive bonding.
